Horsham House takes our environmental impact seriously. Since 2006 we have undertaken extensive resource auditing, equipment upgrades and efficiency approaches. The result has been large reductions in our environmental impacts:
- 28% lower electricity use compared to 2006
- This cumulative reduction of 29.7 MWh is a saving of 40 tonnes CO2-e emissions
- 64% reduction of water use (a cumulative saving of over 1,100,000 litres).
- We use just one fifth of Melbourne best-practice for water use in motels and hotels!
- Near 100% diversion of organic wastes to composting system
- Total reuse of laundry grey water for heritage garden
- Sourcing food locally for fresher and low transport eating!
We have provided habitat for an endangered butterfly found only at three wetlands in the west Wimmera. The Golden-rayed Blue butterfly has been documented on our environmental plantings of the indigenous groundcover Creeping Boobialla (Myoporum parvifolium).
